Overview
The Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) was formed by an act of the New York state legislature in 1970. The Authority is a public benefit organization with a legislative purpose "to provide for the continuance, further development and improvement of transportation and other services related thereto within the Capital Region Transportation District by railroad, omnibus, marine and air". In fulfilling its charge, CDTA has become the premier mobility provider in the Capital Region.
Today, CDTA is taking a leadership role in helping to mold regional growth and advocate for mobility. CDTA provides regular route buses, shuttle buses and Paratransit service with the goal of offering safe, reliable and courteous service. As a flexible and innovative company, CDTA is well-equipped to respond to the changing needs of the region and its customers.
Mission Statement
CDTA’s primary operating responsibility is the management of the region’s bus services. With the rapid change in development patterns and travel trends in the region, the organization’s role has expanded beyond the operation of traditional regular route services. Despite these changes, the CDTA operating mission remains clear and straightforward:
"To Transport Customers Safely and Reliably at Reasonable Cost"
