Routes Merged to Create Stronger Service

Service Changes Effective Sunday, September 25, 2016

ALBANY, NY (September 14, 2016) The Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) announced that route #280 & #286 are being merged into one unified route that will provide service to Wynantskill and downtown Troy via the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute campus. The new Route #286 will now provide 60-minute frequency throughout the year using Route #280’s current span of service (5:20am to 8:30pm on Monday – Friday & 8:30am to 7:30pm on Saturdays).

New Routing & Schedule Notes:

  • The new routing provides service along 15th street, RPI campus, and Sage Avenue.
  • RPI students will have multiple options to/from campus between Route #286 and Route #289 with buses coming every 25-35 minutes at Myrtle & Pawling, and every 30 minutes at Sage & 15th Street.
  • The new route will not operate on Sundays. Customers looking for Sunday service in these areas can use Route #87 to get between campus and downtown via Hoosick Street.
  • The new route includes additional night trips during RPI academic school year that will provide service between Sunset Terrace and Myrtle Avenue via Sage Avenue.
  • The new night trips will operate Monday to Saturday between 8:00pm and 1:00am.

Areas No Longer Served:

  • One existing Route #280 segment on Congress Street between 15th and William Street will now only be served by Route #289. The specific bus stops no longer served by Route #280 are below. Customers are advised to coordinate travel from these locations using Route #289.
