CDTA, Town of Colonie, CDPHP, and Community Care Physicians Expand Access to Health Care

April 16, 2024

CDPHP, Community Care Physicians employees will enjoy unlimited access to CDTA services

ALBANY, NY (April 16, 2024) The Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) has announced a new and convenient way to access the Capital Region’s newest health complex, Wellness Way, in the Town of Colonie, as well as a Universal Access partnership with CDPHP and Community Care Physicians (CCP).

CDTA is excited about this new partnership, to have CDPHP join the Universal Access family and service the Wellness Way health campus,” said CDTA CEO Carm Basile. “Access to health care is critical for our community and we are committed to providing reliable transportation options to ensure that everyone has access to the medical care they need. We are thankful to Supervisor Crummey for prioritizing transit for the community and we hope employees at CDPHP and Community Care Physicians take advantage of this partnership.”

Wellness Way is a new, state-of-the-art medical complex that promotes a seamless customer experience by combining primary care, specialty care, urgent care, an onsite lab, and pharmacy, plus the region’s top-rated health plan, CDPHP, all under one roof. Wellness Way is open and operational, with an official grand opening happening in June. The medical complex features a new bus stop conveniently located just steps from the main entrance. CDTA provides bus service directly to Wellness Way, multiple times per day on Route #182. More information on that can be found at Route 182 - Troy - Albany via Cohoes and Latham | www.cdta.org

According to recent studies, more than one in five patients skip medical care due to transportation barriers. Thanks to the hard work and dedication to transit by the Town of Colonie, and CDPHP, patients and the community can now easily access Wellness Way.

Colonie Town Supervisor Peter G. Crummey said, “Today’s announcement is a fine example of how government and the private sector can work together to maximize transportation services and accessibility to community assets such as the healthcare facilities on Wellness Way.  The Town of Colonie is pleased to partner with CDTA and CDPHP to create convenient workplace access for staff and reliable transportation to critical healthcare services in both an environmentally sustainable and cost-effective manner.”

The collaboration also allows CDPHP and CCP employees unlimited ridership access to the entire CDTA transportation system through a new Universal Access agreement, promoting wellness, sustainability, and ease of travel.

“We are pleased to be part of this exemplary collaboration with CDTA and the Town of Colonie, highlighting the positive impact that can result when public and private entities work together,” said Brian O’Grady, President of Health Plan Markets for CDPHP. “Alongside our partners at CCP, we are thrilled to give patients increased access to medical care and to provide our staff with sustainable and healthy transportation options through CDTA's Universal Access program.”

CDPHP and CCP employees can use any CDTA transit services by swiping their CDTA Navigator card. Customers can download CDTA’s Navigator app in the Apple or Google Play stores. The app provides trip planning, so employees can use the CDTA route network to get to other parts of the Capital Region as well.

Currently, nearly 50 Capital Region colleges and businesses are part of CDTA’s Universal Access program. Through the program, schools and businesses can provide convenient measures to reduce travel expenses, stressful commutes, and parking costs. These solutions further enhance the academic experience and work environment for those participating. It drives ridership and results in improved service span and frequency throughout the CDTA route network.
