Technical Trainer

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Train all maintenance employees, both existing and new, based on the standards currently in place for each job classification.
  • Assess skill levels and identify training needs that, depending on the subject matter, may be handled in-house or through a more specialized outside vendor.
  • Train employees for promotion and career advancement within the maintenance department.
  • Develop, maintain, and update training materials to align with industry standards.
  • Schedule and oversee vendor-led training programs.
  • Conduct annual refresher training on hazardous materials, safety protocols, lockout/tag-out procedures, MSDS, and infectious disease control.
  • Ensure all maintenance staff adhere to high-voltage safety protocols when working on EV vehicles.
  • Oversee compliance with ASE certification requirements
  • Perform weekly Quality Assurance (QA) inspections on post-repair work across all divisions.
  • Provide technical and troubleshooting assistance for diesel, electric, and hybrid vehicle systems.
  • Assist in diagnosing and repairing high-voltage electrical components
  • Maintain accurate training and QA documentation, including reports, evaluations, and compliance records.
  • Organize and document training sessions, including scheduling and attendance tracking.
  • Coordinate local and state Roadeo events to assess technician skills and promote excellence in fleet maintenance.


Requirements:

  • High School Diploma/GED required; vocational or technical certification in vehicle repair preferred.
  • ASE Master Transit Bus certifications required (Must be able to obtain within 12 months).
  • Class A CDL with Wrecker, Air Brakes, and passenger endorsement required.
  • Expertise in mechanical systems, electrical diagnostics, and troubleshooting of heavy-duty vehicles.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, technical manuals, and repair procedures.
  • Familiarity with CAN-BUS and J1939 communication protocols for vehicle diagnostics.
  • Understand safety regulations and high-voltage PPE requirements for EV maintenance.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Ability to execute training efficiently and work collaboratively with team members


Working Conditions

  • Work will be performed in an open garage environment, where employees may be exposed to extreme temperatures, humidity, dust, and vehicle fumes. Physical requirements include standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and occasionally climbing.
  • Travel between the Albany, Schenectady, Troy, and Glens Falls divisions may be required.

Compensation:
$43/hour
