Maintenance of Superintendent - Outlying Divisions

CDTA is now accepting resumes for the Superintendent of Maintenance—Outlying Divisions in the Maintenance Department. This position will report to the Director of Maintenance. The Superintendent of Maintenance—Outlying Divisions will drive the reliability of an advanced fleet that keeps our communities moving. As Superintendent of Maintenance, you will lead multi-site maintenance operations (Troy, Schenectady, and Glens Falls) to deliver clean, safe, and ready-for-service buses every day. Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Fleet Reliability & Availability- Supply the fixed-route and STAR fleets needed for daily pull-outs; track scheduled work and campaigns to keep assets compliant and road-ready.
  • Team Leadership- Coach, mentor, and supervise Assistant Superintendents and Foremen across three divisions; interview and hire top talent; maintain optimal staffing on all shifts.
  • Quality & Compliance- Perform Quality Assurance Inspections, oversee accident reviews, and champion workplace safety initiatives.
  • Labor Relations- Build constructive partnerships with union representatives; resolve disputes at the superintendent level and respond to Step 1 grievances in line with the CBA.
  • Budget & Resource Management- Monitor spending, control parts and labor budgets, and create department guidelines and policies that optimize cost without compromising quality.
  • Data-Driven Operations- Leverage CMMS (Spear) “workbenches,” Excel dashboards, and MUNIS reports to spot trends, reduce downtime, and drive continuous improvement.


Requirements:

  • 5+ years in a fleet or heavy-equipment maintenance role, with at least 2 years leading teams or projects.
  • 5+ years of fleet experience in a Diesel Shop with Heavy/Medium duty fleets preferred, or at least five years of Auto/Truck mechanical repair experience. High School Diploma/GED equivalent, Associate's or technical degree in vehicle repair (Preferred)
  • Advanced Excel skills and proficiency in Word & Outlook; familiarity with MUNIS and Spear (or similar CMMS) is a plus.
  • Proven ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams, write clear policies, and present data-backed recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Adept at multitasking, prioritizing emergent issues, and driving continuous improvement in a unionized environment.
  • Working knowledge of transit operations, preventative maintenance strategies, and industry safety standards.

Salary Range:
$85,123-104,701/salary
