CDTA Celebrates Transit Equity Day, Continues to Advocate for Increased Transit Funding

February 4 highlights equity, accessibility, and the role of public transit statewide

ALBANY, NY (February 4, 2026) The Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) is celebrating Transit Equity Day today, Wednesday, February 4, 2026. This is a nationally recognized day that promotes equity and accessibility in public transportation while honoring the legacy of civil rights pioneers Rosa Parks and Claudette Colvin. Their courageous actions on public buses helped advance a movement for justice and equal access that continues to influence public transit systems across the country.

In recognition of Transit Equity Day, CDTA is displaying messaging on headway signs as well as on infotainment screens on buses.

“Transit Equity Day reminds us why public transportation matters,” said CDTA CEO Frank Annicaro. “CDTA works every day to provide reliable, safe, and affordable transportation for the Capital Region. As the need for transportation continues to grow and investment and development accelerate in the Capital Region, investing in transit becomes even more essential. A region cannot grow without transportation that supports that growth. Every public dollar invested in transit delivers multiple dollars in economic return and improves quality of life while ensuring access to opportunity.”

Ridership across New York’s public transit systems continues to be strong, with customers and communities calling for expanded and improved service. CDTA, along with transit providers statewide, is seeking a 15% increase in state operating assistance to ensure transit agencies can continue delivering the reliable, accessible, and affordable services that communities depend on.
