Electric Scooters Available in the City of Albany Until October 5
ALBANY, NY (September 2, 2025) The Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) will bring back its electric scooter program called SCOOT, beginning Friday, September 5, 2025. This year, scooters will be located throughout the city of Albany in an expanded zone with 10 rack locations and more than 75 scooters available for rent.
“The return of our electric scooter program, SCOOT, in the City of Albany allows us to continue providing a variety of mobility solutions to the community,” said CDTA CEO Frank Annicaro. “We are making improvements while expanding the program, which lets us gain valuable information on how the community utilizes scooters. We’re excited to provide another sustainable transit option for people, whether they’re traveling to work, a local business, or an event in Albany.”
CDTA worked with DROP Mobility to launch updated software, an updated website, and an updated mobile app this year. Customers will need to create a membership via the mobile app called “CDTA SCOOT.” Scooters will cost $2 to unlock and $0.25 per minute to ride.
SCOOT will be available in the City of Albany from Friday, September 5, through Sunday, October 5. The scooters will be available for use daily from 6 a.m. to 12 a.m.
Customers must be 18 years old with age verification by using a State Issued Identification card to rent an electric scooter. Scooters will only be allowed in a specific geofenced area for safety and efficiency purposes. The geofenced area is shown at https://www.cdta.org/scoot. Users will scan a QR code on the vehicle to begin the rental process, which will end with a photograph showing the scooter locked properly. Scooters left unlocked or outside the geofenced area will be subject to a $50 charge.
Riders can also lock their scooter to any fixed public object in the riding zone for easier access with a convenience fee of $2. Scooters must also follow all traffic laws and ride in the roadway, as they are not permitted on sidewalks. Scooters that go outside of the geofenced riding area will shut down. Customers are encouraged to wear helmets when riding.
