Riders encouraged to plan ahead and use real-time service information
ALBANY, NY (January 24, 2026) The Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) is preparing for significant snowfall, beginning Sunday, January 25, 2026, and going through Monday, January 26, 2026. CDTA encourages the Capital Region community to limit road travel, when possible, to allow crews to safely clear roadways, and to consider CDTA for essential travel.
CDTA will operate on a regular Sunday schedule on January 25 and a regular Monday schedule on January 26. However, watch for weather-related delays or detours. Also, due to the State of Emergency declared by New York State, state employees are being authorized to work remotely, therefore the Northway Xpress (NX) and Thruway Xpress (TX) commuter services will not operate on Monday, January 26. Those services will resume on Tuesday, January 27. The CDTA sales window at 85 Watervliet Avenue in Albany will be closed on Monday, January 26, 2026, and will reopen on Tuesday, January 27, 2026.
To maintain safe and reliable service during the winter conditions, CDTA may keep articulated buses off the road and instead use buses better suited for the snow. Customers are encouraged to check headway signs as they may see a different type of bus on their regular route.
STAR customers with reservations on Sunday, January 25, and Monday, January 26, who no longer plan to travel due to the weather conditions should call (518) 482-2022 as soon as possible to cancel their trip.
CDTA's electric car sharing program, DRIVE, will not be taking reservations on Sunday, January 25, and Monday, January 26, due to weather conditions. CDTA is hoping to reopen the service on Tuesday, January 27.
CDTA will monitor the forecast through Sunday, overnight, and through morning to help provide riders with the most consistent and reliable service possible. If there are weather-related delays or detours, they will be posted on CDTA’s website, Navigator app, and social media. We want to remind customers to allow extra time for their travel during the anticipated winter weather. As with any inclement weather, the safety of our operators, customers, and fleet is our top priority.
