Nature Bus returns, offering 20 weeks of free service to Albany

Service Provides Community Opportunity to Experience Green Spaces

ALBANY, NY (May 19, 2025) The Nature Bus will kick off its fifth year of service in Albany on Saturday, May 24, 2025. This collaborative project with the Mohawk Hudson Land Conservancy (MHLC) and the Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) has connected thousands of people to natural places in and around Albany. The complimentary service will run for 20 Saturdays this season through October 4. 

The 2025 Nature Bus locations include:

• Tivoli Lake Preserve and Farm, Albany

• Albany Pine Bush Preserve’s Six Mile Waterworks Park, Albany
• Albany County Helderberg-Hudson Rail Trail, Slingerlands
• DEC’s Five Rivers Environmental Education Center, Delmar 
• Thacher State Park, Voorheesville
• Mohawk Hudson Land Conservancy’s Accessible Fisher Trail in partnership with DEC’s Five    Rivers Education Center, Slingerlands

Partners at Nature Bus destinations are providing a schedule of fun educational programming to engage visitors arriving by bus. Activities range from guided hikes to arts and craft activities. A list of programs for each weekend can be found at www.mohawkhudson.org/nature-bus.

The Nature Bus will also provide service to these popular, larger community events: 

  • Learn to Fish Clinic at Six Mile Waterworks on May 31, from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
  • Get Outside and Get Together Day at Five Rivers on June 14, from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
  • Bug Fest at Five Rivers on August 9
  • Harmony on the Hill at Thacher Park on August 30
  • Fall Festival at Five Rivers on September 20, from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Special thanks to the organizations who provide funding in 2025 to ensure this service is free including the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation’s (DEC) Division of Communication, Education and Engagement, the Albany Pine Bush Preserve Commission, the Natural Heritage Trust courtesy of the Saratoga Capital District Regional State Parks Commission’s Access for All Campaign, and Fenimore Asset Management.
