SARATOGA SPRINGS TRAIN STATION PILOT PARKING PROGRAM HAS BEGUN

October 24, 2012

Albany, NY – The Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) announced it will institute a pilot program to charge a nominal fee for special event parking at the Saratoga Springs Train Station to be managed by Maiden Lane Parking. Revenue generated from pilot parking fee program will allow CDTA to continue providing capital improvements to the facility and grounds, add security measures for customer vehicles and improve traffic flow.

The cost to vehicles parking at the facility for special events will be $5.00 per car. The parking booth will be stationed at the entrance to the lot with cash, credit and debit cards accepted forms of payment. Customers will receive a ticket while credit card customers will get a separate receipt.

The Saratoga Springs Train Station opened in March 2004. It includes a coffee shop, newsstand, visitor information and bicycle lockers at the main entrance. The station serves as an intermodal hub providing customers with connections throughout the state and to Canada. In 2011, the station welcomed the Saratoga and North Creek Railway as a tenant, which offers themed travel excursions including the Polar Express and trips to North Country ski resorts, creating greater demand for parking and limiting available parking spaces.

The Saratoga Springs train station serves as a hub for Amtrak customers traveling to New York City via the Empire Corridor, to Vermont via the Ethan Allen route and to Canada via the Adirondack route and as a stop for Greyhound and Adirondack Trailways. Customers may purchase Greyhound, Adirondack Trailways tickets at the station ticket booth as well as CDTA passes. Amtrak, Adirondack Trailways and Greyhound customers taking trains from the station will continue to enjoy complimentary parking.
