June 14, 2013

Contestant with Best Entry Describing Transit Savings Wins

(Albany, NY) – The Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) has joined public transportation systems nationwide to participate in the eighth annual National Dump the Pump Day on Thursday, June 20. CDTA is inviting riders to send in their transit savings story by telling us how much they’ve saved by riding instead of driving over the last 12 months, what route(s) they take and what they did with their savings.

The best stories will win CDTA passes and other great prizes and riders can calculate their savings, by logging onto www.cdta.org and using the transit savings calculator. DTP Transit savings stories must be posted on CDTA’s facebook page (facebook.com/CDTAiride) between June 13th – June 20th.

The contestant with the best transit savings story will receive the grand prize featuring a summer’s worth of 31-Day Rolling pass (3 months) or NX passes (2 months) plus other prizes including  a four pack of Tri-City ValleyCats tickets and tickets to see WGNA’s CountryFest . The grand prize winner’s story will be featured on CDTA’s website and social media outlets. Second and third prize winners will receive a free 31 day rolling pass. The deadline to enter the contest is Thursday, June 20 @ 5:00pm.

Dump the Pump Day encourages people to ride public transit and save money. Riding CDTA is an economical way to save, and according to APTA’s most recent Transit Savings Report, households can save, on the average, nearly $9,800 a year when they “dump the pump”.

The first National Dump the Pump Day was started in June 2006 to combat rising gas prices, rallying public transit systems and organizations across the country to participate in Dump the Pump Day.
