Winner ‘Dumped’ Car & Became Full Time CDTA Bus Rider

(Albany, NY) - The Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) announced that Erin Sheehan has been named the winner of CDTA’s 2013 Dump the Pump Savings social media contest to highlight The American Public Transportation Association’s (APTA) national Dump the Pump Day. Contestants were asked to share their Dump the Pump story by telling how much they saved by becoming a CDTA bus rider and what they did with their savings.

Ms. Sheehan sold her car in March 2011 and now shares a single car with her husband. She saves close to $500 a month by not having automobile expenses and has the benefit of Universal Access across the CDTA route network as an employee of the State University of New York at Albany. Additional riding perks listed by Ms. Sheehan included engaging with friendly fellow riders and drivers. Riding the bus provides her with extra savings that she puts into a retirement fund, helps pay for nicer vacations, and indulgences like spa treatments.
