Rate Adjustment for Capital Region All-Electric Car Share Program
ALBANY, NY (July 1, 2026) The Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) announced a pricing adjustment to its DRIVE carsharing program beginning Monday, July 13, 2026. The hourly rental rate for DRIVE vehicles will increase from $5 to $6 per hour. The updated pricing includes 100 miles per reservation, then $0.55 per mile for additional mileage.
Since launching in 2023, DRIVE has become a popular part of CDTA’s mobility network, providing convenient access to all-electric vehicles across Albany, Schenectady, Troy, Rensselaer, and Cohoes. Over the past year, DRIVE has seen more than 400 active users, and in the last three years, our community has taken more than 5,500 trips, offering residents and visitors an affordable alternative to vehicle ownership.
DRIVE offers customers access to electric vehicles on an hourly basis through the mobile app “MDO Carshare.” There is a one-time $20 application fee. The service complements CDTA's network of mobility options, which includes fixed-route buses, BusPlus, FLEX On Demand, CDPHP Cycle!, and STAR services.
In addition to the pricing update, CDTA is reminding members of the importance of properly charging vehicles at the conclusion of each trip. Ensuring vehicles are plugged in and charging helps maintain fleet availability. Users will see a flashing green light on the dashboard to indicate it is charging. If the parking spot is blocked for access or there is some other issue with the charger, please report this to the team immediately by calling DRIVE CDTA 24-hour support at (518) 888-7532.
