CDTA to Bring FLEX On Demand Service to Amsterdam

October 27, 2026

New service will expand coverage, provide more direct connections, and offer seven-day-a-week service

AMSTERDAM, NY (October 27, 2026) The Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) is expanding FLEX On Demand service to Amsterdam beginning Sunday, November 29, 2026, providing customers with more frequent, direct, and convenient connections throughout the community.

The new FLEX service area will cover locations currently served by Routes #600 and #601, while expanding coverage to additional areas including Glen and Forest Avenues. CDTA will host two informational sessions to help customers understand the upcoming changes and learn how to use FLEX On Demand. The sessions will take place on Thursday, November 5, at 6 p.m. in the library at Amsterdam High School and Tuesday, November 10, at 6 p.m. at Amsterdam City Hall.

“FLEX On Demand is about making public transportation more convenient and responsive to the needs of our customers,” said CDTA CEO Frank Annicaro. “We’re excited to bring FLEX On Demand to Amsterdam and offer more direct connections seven days a week. By making public transportation more convenient and accessible for residents, it gets them to more opportunities. We look forward to working with the community as we introduce this new service.”

FLEX uses a point-to-point pickup and drop-off model, allowing customers to travel between designated locations within the service area. Pickup and drop-off points will primarily be located along major roadways. Customers can expect wait times of approximately 30 minutes or less, along with more direct connections between destinations.

The Amsterdam FLEX service will operate seven days a week, with service available from 6 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday. CDTA will continue operating Routes #600 and #601 during morning and afternoon periods to accommodate students traveling to and from school. Route #560 (Thruway Xpress) and Route #605 will remain unchanged. For an interactive map for FLEX in Amsterdam, click here.

CDTA introduced FLEX On Demand in Saratoga Springs in November 2025, offering customers an alternative way to travel with convenient, flexible connections. The expansion to Amsterdam supports CDTA’s ongoing efforts to improve mobility and connect more people to jobs, education, healthcare, and other essential destinations. The initiative aligns with CDTA’s Transit Development Plan, which outlines the agency’s approach to improving and adapting service throughout the Capital Region. The plan is available at cdta.org/TDP.

Customers can book FLEX rides through the Navigator app or by calling CDTA at (518) 482-8822. Riders can also watch a FLEX On Demand tutorial video to learn how the service works. CDTA’s Customer Service team is available to help customers plan trips, understand their new travel options, and answer questions about the transition.
